Julen Lopetegui faced a difficult challenge when he took over the Spanish national team job, however in Sergio Ramos, the former Porto coach has found his natural leader. Friday's friendly meeting with Germany was Ramos' 150th match with La Roja, and he now has Iker Casillas' record of 167 caps in his sights. Ramos has been a sensational servant to the national team and was part of the team's success in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Yet as we head towards the 2018 World Cup, he's as driven as ever. Ever since magliette calcio being handed the captain's armband by Lopetegui, the Real Madrid defender has responded perfectly. He's acted as an example for the younger players in the dressing room and has been a go-between for the Spanish coach. Lopetegui has often taken the time to speak with the veteran defender about the squad, discussing many situations with him ahead of the Russia showpiece. Both domestically and at international level, Ramos feels incredibly important. The former Sevilla defender gives the club president his view of things at Valdebebas as a way of maintaining the relationship between the playing staff and the club's hierarchy. With Spain, Ramos is respected by every single player in the team, and this extends to players representing opposing countries. Germany are one of the favourites to win the World Cup after their success in Brazil in 2014, however Spain arrived in Dusseldorf determined to show themselves as contenders. Ramos led from the front on Friday as Lopetegui's charges dominated Germany for the majority of the match. "We don't have to overcomplicate things, but we're convinced by what maglie calcio bambino we're doing," he explained in his post-match press conference. "This is the first step on the right road. "We've recovered all of our lost confidence." The only negative from Friday's match from a Spanish perspective was conceding the goal. Gerard Pique and Ramos are polar opposites on a personal level, however, the duo have formed one of the more formidable defensive pairings in international football. Despite both getting older, they continue to perform at the highest level and will lead Lopetegui's team into the opening group stage match against Portugal on June 15.
